Nowadays “Corona virus” is the most popular term in the World. From child to older everyone is habituated with this term. But COVID-19 affects Mental Health badly. Covid-19 become Pandemic disease which is caused by viral infection of a specific type of Corona Virus, SARS CoV 2.

COVID-19 : a New Viral Disease

A patient with pneumonia like symptoms of unknown cause detected in Wuhan, China, was first reported to the World Health Organization (WHO) Country Office in China on 31 December 2019. The outbreak was declared a Public Health Emergency of International Concern on 30 January 2020. On 11 February 2020, WHO announced a name for the new coronavirus disease: COVID-19.

The deadly infectious disease spread it’s network throughout the world across 213  Countries & affects more than 18 million people in which around 0.7 million people lost their lives till today. (data source: worldometer)

As the World deals with a huge crisis of health, Finance & Social issues as well as Lockdown like strategy have implemented by many countries like India the mental health implications are not to be ignored. The crisis is generating stress throughout the population.

At the beginning When people had to known about the disease, as it’s new to all, a Stress usually develops. People spent 20–24 hours a day at home due to Lockdown.As maximum people have to stop their income activity for a long period, a financial crisis is raised which develops a stress obviously & badly affect on mental health. The Corona Warriors — Health workers, Law & Order maintainer like Police, Administrator, Essential commodities supplier etc. who are fighting at frontline, outside from Home have to be more burdened in their duty. For that a stress also developed which disturbs mental health.

Psychological Impact

Psychiatric and Psycological impact badly affect the mental health during this pandamic issue. Social isolation and Lockdown develops stress, Anxitey and depression. Anxiety, a recurring symptoms, develops at large scale of population, increases randomness of mental activity.

In India, the prime response to this pandemic has been fear. Fears have developed based on misinformation circulating in the media, perticularly social media. The fears are also frequent, misinterpreting that every fever or cough is a COVID-19 infection.

COVID-19 affects mental health of students also. School is closed since the lockdown started, School friendly environment is missed by student which is not possible to fullfill in the home. The students who are preparing for various exams are confused and feel an uncertinity, when the exam will be conducted as many exams are postponed for this pandemic issue. Many students specially who are belong to poor families or live in village are hopeless as they are not cope up with the situation. Usually a mental pressure is developed on the asprient’s mind.

Social Impact

Some social issue affect the mental health. COVID-19 patients and health workers are affected with social stigma. The term “Social distancing” is misleading in social life which should to be used as “Physical distancing“. COVID-19 patients along with his/her family have isolated from their society which is deadly affect on mentality of a seeking persons. The health workers are ignored by neighbors as they are in touched with COVID-19 patients. As a result they are depressed with their professions. They are failed to give proper service. Many health workers are harashed by mass people at the time of visiting Corona Hotspot areas. So, a level of anxitey is always build up on this Corona Warriors.

Financial Impact

Because of this Pandamic issue, Lockdown like strategy is implemented by the Government of many countries all over the world. Migrant workers are most affected by the lockdown. Poor peoples are not able to get proper food. Poverty and unemployment increase manifold. Being the chances of losses in Jobs, Business and Carrier, people are mentally exhosted. As a result, HypertensionDepression etc. increase dramatically.

Conclusion

The mental health issue during every pandemic show markable similarities. However, the scale of impact, the duration and the uncertainty of future progress of COVID-19 increase the intensity of mental disorder. While research for vaccine and cure continue, the focus on mental health impacts and finding their solutions should not be neglected.
