Nowadays, every NEET aspirant asks whether the NEET 2025 Biology Question will be easy or tough. The NEET 2024 cut-off was very high due to the comparatively easy question paper.
Here I will discuss the probable NEET 2025 Biology Question pattern, distribution, weightage, sample etc.
NEET 2025 Biology Question Pattern
The NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) 2025 Biology question pattern assesses a candidate’s understanding of fundamental biological concepts. It also evaluates their ability to apply these concepts to real-world situations. Here’s a breakdown of the typical question pattern:
NEET 2025 Biology Questions distribution
The subjects, Botany and Zoology will be included under the biology portion in NEET 2025 question paper. Among the 100 questions, 50 will be from zoology, and the other 50 will be from botany.
Each subject, Botany and Zoology, has two sections: Section A and Section B. Section A has 35 questions, all of which are compulsory. Section B contains 20 questions, of which 15 must be answered.
NEET 2025 Biology Questions types
All the 100 questions will be Multiple-choice questions (MCQs) based. These are broadly 6 types of questions.
Direct questions
These questions ask for specific information or understanding of a concept. Generally, these questions are based on a single topic or a single chapter. Maximum these type questions are memory-based. Most of these questions are included under Section A.
Last year, in NEET 2024, 35 questions came as direct questions.
Example of Direct question
Which of the following is the structural and functional unit of the nervous system?
- Neuron
- Nephron
- Neuroglia
- Schwann cell
Application questions
These questions require you to apply your knowledge to a given scenario or problem. These questions are based on multiple concepts and are formed by miscellaneous topics. This type of question may come under section A or section B.
10 questions came as “application questions” in NEET 2024, last year.
Example of Application questions
Which of the following are required for the dark reaction of photosynthesis?
A. Light
B. Chlorophyll
C. CO2
D. ATP
E. NADPH
Choose the correct answer from the options given below:
- C, D and E only
- D and E only
- A, B and C only
- B, C and D only
Matching questions
Matching questions are of two types:
- Column matching: These questions require matching items from two lists based on a given criterion. Two columns are headed as “Column A” or “List A” and “Column B” or “List B”.
- List mismatching: Choose the correct matching or incorrect mismatching
Last year, in NEET 2024,30 questions came as “Matching questions”.
Example of Matching questions
Match List I with List II.

Choose the correct answer from the options given below.
- A-II, B-III, C-IV, D-I
- A-III, B-IV, C-I, D-II
- A-IV, B-I, C-II, D-III
- A-IV, B-I, C-II, D-III
Statement based questions
Statement-based questions are of two types:
- How many correct/Incorrect statement
- Correct/Incorrect between Statement I & Statement II
23 “Statement based questions” came in NEET 2024
Example of Statement based questions
Given below are two Statements:
Statement I: Chromosomes become gradually visible under light microscope during leptotene stage.
Statement II: The beginning of the diplotene stage is recognized by dissolution of synaptonemal complex.
In the light of the above statements, choose the correct answer from the options given below:
- Statement I is true but Statement II is false.
- Statement I is false but Statement II is true.
- Both Statement I and Statement II are true.
- Both Statement I and Statement II are false.
Assertion and Reason questions
These questions present a statement (Assertion) followed by a reason (Reason). Candidates must determine if both the Assertion and Reason are true. They also need to check if both are false. Alternatively, they may find that the Assertion is true but the Reason is false.
2 questions came as “Assertion and Reason (A&R) ” in NEET 2024 last year.
Example of Assertion & Reason questions
Assertion: The mitochondria are considered the “powerhouse of the cell.”
Reason: Mitochondria are responsible for producing ATP, the primary energy currency of the cell.
Options:
- Both assertion and reason are true, and reason is the correct explanation of assertion.
- Both assertion and reason are true, but reason is not the correct explanation for assertion
- Assertion is true, but reason is false.
- Assertion is false, but reason is true.
Diagram-based questions
These questions present a diagram or image and ask you to interpret/analyze it, and identify the label.
Example of Diagram-based questions
In the given figure, which component has thin outer walls and highly thickened inner walls

- C
- D
- A
- B

How will be the NEET 2025 Biology question?
Here I have discussed the probable NEET 2025 Biology question pattern and weightage. You can realise that the NEET 2025 Biology question will be akin to the earlier 4-5 years. If you analyse the last 5 year’s Questions, you will find four main types of questions have broadly come up. They are Direct questions, Application questions, Statement-based questions and Column matching questions. Assertion and Reason (A & R) type questions are coming from the last 2 to 3 years. Diagram-based questions have come in the last year, NEET 2024. However, the NEET 2025 Biology question will be mainly NCERT-based.
